Each year, The Block delivers a mix of drama, design inspiration, and unforgettable auction moments — and 2025’s Daylesford season was no exception. While contestants spent 13 gruelling weeks transforming run-down properties into dream homes, the final act belonged to those who would decide their financial fate: the bidders.
With billionaire buyer Adrian Portelli sitting out this season, a more open field gave room for both familiar and fresh faces to step up on auction day.
Here’s a look at the personalities who turned heads under the hammer this year:
Danny Wallis – The Iconic IT Entrepreneur
A staple of The Block auctions since 2012, Danny Wallis returned once again with his trademark eccentric bidding style — complete with dollars-and-cents increments that keep auctioneers on their toes. Accompanied by his sister and his famous dog Herbie, Wallis successfully purchased Robby and Mat’s House 5 for $3,099,999.10 after narrowly missing out on another. As with his previous acquisitions, the property is expected to be added to his growing rental portfolio.
Frank Valentic – The Veteran Buyer’s Advocate
Having bid in 17 consecutive Block seasons, Frank Valentic continues to be one of the show’s most experienced participants. Representing his clients, he bid on four of the five houses this year and secured House 4 — his 10th Block purchase overall. With Portelli out of the mix, Valentic noted that this season offered a fairer playing field for buyers and hinted he may soon pass the torch to younger advocates after years in the spotlight.
Jack Dalgety – The Quiet Developer
Despite his bright attire and green Aston Martin, property developer Jack Dalgety tried to keep a low profile. A long-time Block follower since its early Manly days, Dalgety had his eye on House 3 with plans to potentially turn it into a boutique B&B. While bidding went beyond his limit, he praised the show’s ability to continually choose outstanding locations that attract genuine buyers.
Joel & Bryce – The Stylish Spectators
Dressed in designer labels from head to toe, Joel and Bryce were hard to miss in the crowd. The Sydney-turned-Melbourne couple toured all five homes before auction day, singling out House 3 as their favourite for its elegant design and beautiful backyard. Though they didn’t raise a paddle this time, they hinted at returning in future seasons — perhaps even as contestants.
Tiane Raupita – The Returning Contender
Back for her second appearance after showing interest at last year’s Phillip Island auctions, Tiane Raupita maintained a quiet presence throughout the event. Although she expressed interest in multiple homes, she ultimately held off on making serious bids this time around.
Mark Errichiello – The Mystery Bidder
Known for bidding on behalf of Adrian Portelli in previous seasons, Mark Errichiello’s presence immediately stirred speculation. While he attended all five auctions, he only raised his paddle for House 1, going head-to-head with Valentic and businessman Ronnie Bassi before bowing out at $2.95 million. Despite rumours that he was again representing Portelli, nothing was confirmed.
David Bromley – The Artist
A Daylesford local for over two decades, artist David Bromley is a familiar name — especially as his works adorned the walls of The Block homes this season. Spotted among the crowd during the House 5 auction, Bromley said his interest stemmed from his professional relationship with agent Kim McQueen.
“I’ve done a lot of business with Kim and respect her immensely,” he shared. “She’s fantastic to deal with and has great taste.”
Bromley also expressed appreciation for how much of his artwork was showcased on the show:
“I’m an artist who’s very comfortable with popular culture. It’s lovely to see my pieces featured in something people genuinely enjoy.”
Ronnie Bassi – The Workwear Mogul
Entrepreneur Ronnie Bassi may not be a household name — yet — but he made his mark at the auctions. Known for building a successful labour hire and workwear business, Bassi seized the spotlight by bidding on House 1 against Frank Valentic and Mark Errichiello. Though he didn’t walk away with the property, his appearance generated plenty of attention — and some savvy free publicity for his brand.
Rocco – The Enthusiastic Newcomer
Arriving in style behind the wheel of a red Ferrari, Rocco looked ready to buy — but his bids fell short on House 1 as prices exceeded his limit. Still, his appearance added to the spectacle of the day, proving once again that The Block auctions attract personalities as colourful as the homes themselves.
Mitch Duncan – The Local Publican
Familiar to both contestants and crew as the owner of Daylesford’s iconic Farmers Arms Hotel, Mitch Duncan expressed interest in House 5 for its views and proximity to friends. However, with big names like Wallis back in the mix, his hopes of securing the property were short-lived.
Final Thoughts
The Block 2025 auctions were a showcase not just of beautifully renovated homes, but of the diverse personalities that make the show’s finale so compelling. From multi-millionaire investors to first-time bidders, the energy in the room proved once again why The Block remains one of Australia’s most-watched real estate events.
